Bypass during the construction of an underground tram tunnel as part of a project for a new tram route connecting Wola with Ochota, Mokotów and Wilanów

Warsaw, Poland As part of the investment carried out by the consortium of ZUE S.A. and FABE Polska, a new tram route with a length of approximately 1.6 km is being built. The task includes not only the construction of the track and tunnel, but also the reconstruction of the road system and the modernization of underground networks, including sewage and water supply systems at 1920 Bitwy Warszawskiej Street. These works require ensuring the continuity of sewage flow by temporarily redirecting it. The client in cooperation with the general contractor, undertook the reconstruction of a chamber with a 1200 x 800 mm sewer. Our task was to design and commission a temporary pumping station that would allow the modernized section to be bypassed and sanitary sewage with an average inflow of approximately 1200 m³/h to be discharged.

Main assumptions of the bypass:

– temporary pumping station capacity approx. 2800 m3/h
– suction system made of DN 500 steel pipe, pipe length 5.60 m
– pressure line made of HDPE DN 300 x 2 pipes with a total length of 160 m
– full 24/7 supervision of pump operation using a remote monitoring system
– power supply by two CAT 220 kVA generators, divided into a working unit and a backup unit

RENTA PUMPS solution:

Based on hydraulic calculations and a 3D model of the installation site, we prepared a complete concept for a temporary pumping station with a pressure line. The biggest challenge was laying the pipeline in the immediate vicinity of the chamber undergoing reconstruction, where space was very limited and it was necessary to maintain the highest health and safety standards and precision of installation.

For the implementation, we used Hidrostal F10K pumps operating in parallel, controlled by frequency converters integrated in our 4 × 45 kW PLC control container. This solution, additionally equipped with vacuum pumps and a monitoring system, ensured intelligent and fully automated control of the entire system. The system was operated from a single touch panel, with the possibility of remote supervision.

The power supply to the pumping station was secured by two CAT power generators, each with a capacity of 220 kVA, operating in an SZR system. This ensured full reliability of power supply and continuity of operation of the entire bypass system.

Equipment:
4 pcs. – Hidrostal F10K pumps
1 pc. – PLC 4 x 45kW control container with vacuum pump
