Generators

RENTA PUMPS supplies three-phase diesel generators. We are pleased to offer a wide range of diesel generators that meet the individual needs of our customers. Three-phase electric generators, sometimes also called industrial generators, are one of the most important things in ensuring uninterrupted production or service processes. Power supply disruptions can not only disrupt the workflow, but also damage expensive equipment – for this reason it is important to choose a suitable and reliable electric generator. A three-phase generator may also be needed for constant operation – to supply electric energy to various devices in places where electricity from the network is not available.

Attributes of diesel generators worth paying attention to

Engine. Undoubtedly one of the most important components, largely determining the price of a three-phase generator, and at the same time its reliability and expected service life. RENTA PUMPS supplies industrial generators with a wide range of engines – Perkins, Cummins, Volvo, Ricardo, Boudouin, Tumosan, Kubota, Doosan, Iveco, Yang Dong, John Deere. The ability to ensure a wide selection allows us to meet individual customer needs, which can be very different.

If the generator is needed only as protection against unexpected and rare power supply failures, and therefore, it is likely to work a little – it is rational to choose an industrial generator with a cheaper engine, which does not have a large working resource, but will cope with this task perfectly. Meanwhile, if the generator is needed for constant work, it is worth considering investing in a higher-class engine, which can offer better durability and longevity.

Fuel system. An important parameter is the capacity of the fuel tank – this determines how long the generator will be able to generate energy without human intervention. Again, the intended use of the generator is important here. If the device is used only as a protection against unexpected events, a large fuel tank is not necessary. It is also worth paying attention to the fact that even diesel fuel has an expiration date – depending on various factors, its expiration date varies from 6 to 12 months. It is a good idea to constantly replenish diesel fuel with “fresh” fuel, thus diluting the old one.

Attention should also be paid to the fuel filter. Various particles and impurities can clog the fuel filter, thereby causing problems with engine operation. To maintain the generator in good condition, the fuel filter should be checked even more often than scheduled maintenance is planned.

Winters in Lithuania can come with quite low temperatures, for this reason RENTA PUMPS offers generators with a fuel heating system. Such an addition to the standard equipment will ensure smooth operation down to -35 °C. This is especially important if the generator is installed outdoors.

Cooling and exhausting. When a generator is operating, not only electricity is generated, but also heat, which must be removed effectively to ensure the durability and uninterrupted operation of the device. Generators are cooled by a coolant, which is changed at scheduled intervals.

But it is no less important to remove heat from the room in which the generator is installed. Depending on the size of the industrial generator, there are requirements for room ventilation parameters and distances that must be maintained between the generator and the walls to ensure proper removal of excess hot air. Ventilation is also necessary because generators are powered by internal combustion engines, which burn oxygen and emit exhaust gases during operation. They must be removed.

Lubrication and accumulator. These are two three-phase electric generator parts that are very important to ensure reliable operation. The accumulator, whose job is to provide energy to the starter that starts the engine and to the control panel in the event of a power failure from the network, is sensitive to environmental factors. Extremely low air temperatures or a complete discharge of the accumulator can cause problems. For these reasons, the control panel informs users if the accumulator is not being properly charged.

Continuous and proper lubrication is the most important factor in achieving the longevity of the generator engine. It is important to use the right oil and change it in a timely manner (including the oil filter). Again, very low air temperatures can affect the operating properties of the oil, making it too thick. To avoid this, an oil heater can be added to the standard generator set, ensuring proper operation of the unit down to temperatures of -35 °C.

How to choose the right powers’ electric generator?

Most often, the required power of a diesel generator is calculated based on how many and what power of electrical devices the generator will have to “feed” in the event of a power outage. It is very important to note that most electrical devices (especially those with an electric motor) require much more power during startup than the nominal power of the device. This is because the starting electric motor requires more energy than when operating in normal mode.

Each device has its own starting power coefficient, which usually ranges from 1 to 3.5. The formula for calculating the required generator power looks like this:

Nominal power of all devices in watts x average of the starting power coefficients of all devices / 0.75 = minimum power of the electric generator

The formula presents a division of values by 0.75, since it is recommended that the maximum load does not exceed 75 percent. of the nominal power of the generator. This factor is especially important to ensure reliable very important electrical devices working, for example, a fire-fighting pressure boosting station with an electric motor.
